Course Overview

This course has two parts. First part deals with the basics of demography and second part deals with the gender issues. Students of this course are expected to learn the broader population issues, not only in Population Studies, but also its application in planning. This module will also focus on the factors of urban population dynamics and population policy of Bangladesh. Second module mainly focusing mainstreaming gender issues in development agenda.

Course Objectives

The learning objectives of this course are as follows:

·       Acclimatise the student to the origin and concepts of Population Studies and Demography

·       Introducing gender sensitive planning

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

·       Explain different concepts of demography and population studies;

·       Identify the national population trends as well as awareness of the consequences of population change;

·       Demonstrate how demography and population studies are related to other disciplines such as Sociology, Economics, Geography etc;

·       Understand and analyse different issues, theories and concepts related to gender discrimination;

·       Design a gender responsive planning process.
