Course Overview

Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries of the world due to climate change. Besides, since the country is projected to experience rapid urbanization over the next several decades, it is imperative for the policy makers and urban managers to plan for new urban development with proper integration of disaster risk information and pertinent risk management options into the urban planning and construction processes.

Course Objectives

This course aims at providing in-depth understanding about the climate and disaster related issues and their implications in spatial/physical planning process.

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

·       Identify and explain different concepts related to climate variability and  changes;

·       Understand origin, progressions and impacts of different disasters;

·       Analyse  vulnerability of different types and at different scales;

·       Select and apply approaches of disaster risk reduction and disaster management;

·       Comply the policy process of disaster management options.
