URP 3111: Rural Planning II

Course Overview

This course emphasises on the concepts of rural centre planning and rural services and utilities together to address the multidimensional deprivation issues of rural people through union/upazila planning. It introduces different participatory planning tools. It will explain the role of new technology in rural development. It also familiarises students with different theoretical, organizational and practical issues involved in rural development.

Course Objectives

This course aims to introduce the challenges associated with rural development in planning perspective.  Equipping students with tools and techniques for preparing union/upazila plan will be the major foci of this course.  

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

After completing the course students are expected to be able to:

·       Demonstrate growth centre planning and comprehend role of technology in rural development;

·       Understand rural services and infrastructure planning;

·       Critique different approaches for developing rural planning strategy;

·       Analyse the role of agriculture in achieving food security in a changing climate;

·       Design rural development projects;

·       Assess issues and practices related to rural development;

·       Apply the participatory tools in rural planning and development.
