URP 3112: Rural Planning II (Field Work & Studio)

Course Overview

The course is designed for the third year students of Urban and Rural Planning Discipline. It is expected that upon completion of the course student will learn the basic principles of rural planning. Students of this course are expected to identify the theoretical concepts in the field rural physical and participatory planning. This course will be conducted simultaneously with its theoretical counterpart URP 3111. Students of this course are expected to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge from URP 3111.

Course Objectives

This course is designed for providing field experience to the third year students on rural development issues having a clear focus on applying participatory planning tools and techniques.

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

After completing the course students are expected to be able to:

·       Use quantitative and qualitative methods to explore rural problems and economic, social, cultural and political dynamics in rural area;

·       Analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data by performing statistical and descriptive analyses;

·       Design/Develop rural centre plan or union/upazila plan (including planning of services and facilities;

·       Apply PRA methods to settlement & local level planning;

·       Understand how collaboration or co-management work at local level;

·       Analyse the role agriculture/non-farm sector, new technology and rural food assistance safety nets in achieving food security;

·       Apply theory of change in framing the impacts of rural development programmes.
