URP 4221: Urban Governance
Course Overview
Course Objectives
The aim of the urban governance course at the undergraduate level is to increase both theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of the economic, social, institutional, political and physical aspects of urban planning and development that process in ensuring efficient delivery system of urban services to the city and town dwellers. Specifically, the following are the objectives of this course:
· Familiarize with theoretical as well as practical aspects of urban governance
· Disseminate the experiences of practicing urban governance in other similar countries
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
On completion of the course, students should:
· Understand good governance principles and themes;
· Explain the changing role of government in era of globalisation, decentralisation and democratisation;
· Analyse the nexus between public, private sectors and civil society in planning for and managing cities;
· Identify the role of private sector and civil society in delivering and financing infrastructure and services.
